I individually submerged two (2) Bayite 1/2″ X 5″ Ferro Rods and a 1095 “C” shaped Flint striker in Epoxy to insure complete and total coverage. I put these in my “never ever plan to use” 6″ schedule 80 PVC pipe (sealed with a bunch of those moisture packets that come with meds and aspirins etc) along with many other very necessary items that are hard to make “in the field”. I also put a couple of “high resin” content fatwood sticks (with the bark still intact and the ends sealed with epoxy) , 25 vaseline cotton / waxed makeup pads and a roll of jute twine. I have zero plans to dig this up to “inspect” it as I am 100% positive that the epoxy will protect them (at least for my expected remaining time on this earth) Besides this cache is NOT replacing my “above ground” EDC / Gear. I see no reason to expound on everything in it as my only intention is to present how I decided to protect the fire creating portion of it. I am fully aware that breaking / scraping off the epoxy will be a pain but the end result will be IMMEDIATELY USABLE fire creation tools!
